FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Update on 2010 Influenza VaccineIncludes H1N1 (Swine Flu)August 11, 2010 -- We would like to update our patients regarding the Influenza Vaccine (Flu Shot) that will be available this fall. Each year the Centers for Disease Control provide starter batches of the Influenza Vaccine in the late spring to manufacturers that are licensed to sell the vaccine in the United States. Last year, H1N1 was a separate vaccine because it became a concern AFTER the starter batches for the regular seasonal influenza vaccine were sent out and manufacturing was under way. H1N1 could not be "added" to the 2009 Influenza vaccine and therefore was manufactured as a separate shot. This year, H1N1 will be added to the starter batches, therefore there will be a single Influenza vaccine this fall instead of two. The vaccine will be as safe as it has been for decades and we encourage universal vaccination.. Everyone should get it who can get it. We hope to have our supply in place by the end of September. Watch this website for the announcement when we will be starting to schedule "Flu Clinics" to dispense the vaccine.
